What we recover

The value is in the coating, not the shell.

A spent converter is a ceramic or metallic substrate carrying a thin washcoat, and that coating holds platinum, palladium and rhodium measured in grammes per unit.

Pt

Platinum

The original autocatalyst metal, still dominant in diesel units. Oxidises carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons.

Pd

Palladium

Took over most petrol applications, doing the same oxidation work as platinum.

Rh

Rhodium

The scarcest of the three by a wide margin. Reduces nitrogen oxides, and almost nothing else will.

About

Shree Shyam Metals

Sanjay Kumar, Proprietor · Registered 2020

Shree Shyam Metals recycles spent catalytic converters and recovers the platinum, palladium and rhodium held in their coating. Units reach us from registered vehicle scrapping facilities (RVSF), converter traders, dismantling yards and OEM production waste anywhere in India.

We decan the converters, mill the substrate to a uniform powder, sample and assay it, and supply the recovered material to refineries we hold contracts with in Europe, Korea and Japan. Every lot is settled on its assay, in writing, with an independent laboratory available as umpire.

Last year we recycled 1,45,006 converters. Our in-house washcoat extraction means two-wheeler and other low-loading units are processed rather than turned away. A New Delhi proprietorship, registered in 2020.
